EDK is your local guide to food culture in Kyoto: restaurants, bars and cafes. It started with a passion for food, and a love for Kyoto. Now we have an international team of editors, photographers, and contributors, all striving to support local businesses by spreading the word on the newest, hottest and best that Kyoto has to offer.
EDK is aimed at helping visitors and residents alike find the most desirable and affordable place for a meal or beverage. EDK also aims to promote local businesses and connect them with an international audience.
Behind EDK is a multicultural team who have created, own and operate the site. With strong Kyoto roots, as well as Canadian and Australian backgrounds, they aim to foster greater collaboration within Kyoto's unique cultural environment.
EDK can play an important role in helping overseas visitors during their stay in Kyoto. Japan currently sees over 8 million foreign tourists a year, compared to China's 33 million visitors. The Japanese government aims to increase this number to 10 million foreign visitors by 2010, as part of the [Yokoso! Japan] strategy. A Japan National Tourist Organization survey in 2007 found that over 70% of foreign tourists to Japan come to experience traditional Japanese food. EDK provides a vital communication bridge between Kyoto businesses and foreign tourists.
